fireplace types for small cabin

I just bought a cabin, and I'm looking to replace the old fireplace.
I want something that's easy to maintain and super efficient, but I'm a total newbie and have no idea what it costs to build one.

I know it depends, but can anyone give me a ballpark number? Any advice on what kind of fireplace types to look for would be awesome. Thanks!

Congrats on the cabin! I did something similar last fall after buying an old A-frame in the woods. I replaced the old wood stove with a gas fireplace that vents outside. It's easy to use, doesn't need much cleaning, and warms up the place fast. Mine cost about $3,500 with install, but prices can go from $2,000 to $10,000 depending on what you pick. If you want something simple, gas or electric are good choices. Wood looks great but takes more work to clean and keep safe.
