Considering purchasing a 1983 Hearthstone Soapstone 1. The exterior appears to be in perfect condition, with no catalyst and a 2009 pull for overheating the room. Ever since, it has been stored. What's it worth and what should I look for?

Have you had a professional inspect the stove and chimney to ensure it's safe and functioning properly before buying?

This looks like a great find, especially if the soapstone is in good shape with no cracks inside! I'd definitely take a closer look at the firebox, baffle, and door gaskets to make sure they're not worn out. Overheating can really mess things up, so it's worth your time to check those parts thoroughly. If everything checks out, I'd say it could be valued between $600 and $900. Are you thinking of hooking it up right away, or do you want to restore it first?

If it's been stored well and has no cracks, it could be worth $500 to $800, pretty close to what @ChimneyChamp has estimated as well. I'm sure it still depends on your location + the demand. Actually, it may cost more if the firebox is clean.
