Outdoor boiler question

I'm curious, when the outdoor boiler isn't calling for heat, does it just keep the water at the set temperature without running the circulation pump? Or does the water keep circulating through the pipes all the time? Or does circulation only kick in when heat is actually needed? I would love some clarity on this

It actually depends on the system setup, tho usually, the outdoor boiler keeps the water at the set temperature using its own controls, and the circulation pump only runs when heat is needed inside the house. In most setups like ours, the water doesnt circulate constantly, circulation kicks in when a thermostat calls for heat

So basically, the pump stays off to save energy until the thermostat signals. Does that delay heat delivery at all when it kicks on?
