I've been running a cast iron log burner for a couple winters now, but a buddy swears by his soapstone setup. He says it keeps the house warm hours even after the fire is out. I'm thinking about selling my current unit and picking up a Hearthstone Manchester I saw locally, but I'm not sure if the difference is as big as people claim. Has anyone actually made the switch from a standard firebrick-lined stove to soapstone?

Absolutely, Soapstone log burner stoves are great at holding onto heat for a longer period even after the fire has gone out. The Hearthstone Manchester boasts impressive thermal mass, but it does take a bit longer to warm up compared to cast iron stoves
