Woodstove over a prefab

Just checking with you all. Is swapping my 5 year old prefab fireplace for a classic wood stove a good idea? I'm looking at an older style stove, not one of those new ones. My prefab has an intake vent, but the wood stove I'm considering is ventless. I'm assuming I can just remove the old intake vents, right?

About the chimney though, I've read most prefabs use an 8 inch pipe, while older wood stoves usually need a 6 inch. how do I handle this size difference? Anyhting else i need to watch out for? thanks!

Yep, you can usually remove the intake vent if the stove ain't needing it, but double check your local codes since some places don't allow ventless stoves. For the chimney, you'll need a reducer from 8" to 6", but make sure it won't mess with the draft. And be sure your setup meets clearance and safety requirements.

Why are you set on an older, ventless wood stove, are you going for the aesthetic, or is there a specific reason you're avoiding the newer EPA-certified models with proper venting?
